FISHING DERBY

2006

With no longer being able to hold the Local 280 Fishing at Lowe's Resort, the search was on to find another location to host this popular event.  Earlier this year, with the assistance of retired Business Representative Gary Todd, arrangements were made to hold the Fishing Derby at the Mile High Resort on Face Lake near Logan Lake, B.C.

Although the amount of space that Local Union No. 280 was able to secure was limited, it was determined to try this new location.  Regrettably, there were some who wished to attend but were not able to arrange accommodations.

However, after all the planning, the weather co-operated and the weekend turned out to be a great success.  The Fishing Derby was a family oriented event with some Members even bringing their grandchildren.  The rainbow trout did not fight like salmon but did prove to be much more plentiful.

On Saturday evening as usual, a barbeque was held and all Members and their families gathered together for steak with all the trimmings.  After dinner, many returned to their campsites and cabins for a campfire and a quiet evening, to be up early for fishing the next morning.

The final weigh-in was at 10:00 am on Sunday morning with 3rd place going to 11 year old Braden Vanthournout whose father Brother Daniel Vanthournout works for Fraser Valley Refrigeration.  Brother Borek Fromm of Alpha Roofing and Sheet Metal took 2nd place, and retired member Brother Albert Russell won first place for his rainbow trout.

The good people at Mile High Resort were great and even donated a prize, as well as our friends at SMACNA-BC who were also generous with a much appreciated prize.
